Oil Painting with Yim Mau-Kun

Mr. Yim Mau-kun is well known not only for his masterful realistic drawings and paintings, but also for his effective approach in teaching drawing and painting from life. In his demonstration, Mr. Yim always starts with a careful study of composition, followed by a monochrome block-in of the large shapes or structures of the subjects, then he lays in the large masses of color, based on which he builds smaller forms and details. Then final adjustments in edges and colors are made to achieve the desired wholeness and harmony. You can find the description of a similar approach in the classic book "The Painter in Oil" written by Daniel Burleigh Parkhurst, however in this DVD you can enjoy the the vivid demonstration of this approach by a master. Under this system, Mr. Yim addressed special problems, techniques and rule of thumb in painting different subjects including still life, landscape, portrait and figure in these 12 DVD's.



Under the strong influence of Russian realism impressionistic painters such as Ilya Repin, Valentin Serov and Isaac Levitan, Mr. Yim pays intensive attentions to the harmonic variation of colors and dynamic brush strokes in his paintings.
